Cafe Royal

  • Address: Etim Inyang Crescent, Victoria Island, Lagos

  • Experience: I was at Café Royal for a script meeting. First thing I noticed was how neat the place looked. I love that there was a visible signage and the option of a beautiful outdoor space (chocolate royal) or an upstairs sitting area that provided more privacy. We sat upstairs. Setting was beautiful, music lovely and the menu, rich enough. The waiters were polite and competent.

  • Service: The service was good and efficient. Lighting was great too. The waiters accommodated our noise (trust me, a script conference could get loud) and guys, there were internet slips given to each of us and it worked too! Just great!! At some point, however, the air conditioning dropped noticeably. We called the attention of the staff, the airing remained poor.

  • Taste: I had a half-grilled chicken, marinated with spicy tomatoes, onions, and pepper, served with jollof rice and fried plantains. The grilled chicken looked good and tasted even great! The portion was good itself. Had to pack a large chunk home for later. The jollof rice, on the other hand, did not taste great one bit. For starters, it was not heated appropriately. With jollof rice, you cannot be on the fence. It either tastes right or it doesn’t. This one did not.

The Chapman was great! Large cup and flavours beautifully blended in. The muffin tasted great too.

  • Price: Price is fair. My meal cost 3,500 asides a drink. Prices range between 3,500-6500, depending on food choice.

  • Caution: The very rich array of ice cream downstairs, is not allowed upstairs. So sad! You will have to make do with the very few options upstairs alongside the meal menu, or opt to sit downstairs (chocolate royal), have all the ice cream flavours you desire alongside pastries. I truly do not understand why one cannot have ice cream brought upstairs seeing they are both royal spaces. Anyways, decide what you want and be guided.

  • Note: The restroom requires better airing. You walk in and it’s humid in there. The wash soap was empty as at the time I visited. There were no tissue rolls in the stalls nor paper towels at the hand wash areas. I could see them visibly stored in a locked compartment.

I just always advise, go around tissue armed.
